Group Supervision in First-Time Music Therapy Practicum. In M. Forinash (Ed.), Music Therapy Supervision (pp. 69-87). Gilsum, NH: Barcelona Publishers. The painting is made up predominantly of blues and whites. These colours reflect the blues of sky and sea and the white of clouds and sea foam. Some warm tones are worked into the clouds. A border of light-brown painted canvas borders the painting. Fringed knotted twine decorates the top and bottom sides of the piece. The pouches were formed by folding the canvas upward and spot sewing them by hand. The ship was painted and then twine was knotted in an open lattice weave pattern. This was sewn to the edges of the pockets and along the top of the cloth, creating a scalloped shaped fringe. This piece may have been used for storage purposes in the kitchen, workshop, or on board ship. It reflects the Maritime tradition of painted sail cloth used for floor and sea chest coverings. Gallerist and friend Anna Schwartz said Nixon’s support of artists was one of his great qualities and he was always excited to collaborate with others on projects. This exhibition was curated by Tamarind Institute and features a series of original lithographs created by VSA Artists in a collaborative project of VSA North Fourth Art Center and the internationally renowned Tamarind Institute. Mhairi McGregor paintings have been exhibited very widely in Scotland, England and Australia. More recently, her paintings have also been exhibited in the Toronto International Art Fair in Canada. The core space of the exhibition focuses on Women Depicting Women: Her Vision, Her Voice. The works on view range across time and place, as well as social, political and cultural contexts, yet all represent a highly individual interpretation of female portraiture. Highlights throughout the run of the exhibition will include celebrated paintings by Frida Kahlo, Alice Neel and Loïs Mailou Jones; photographs by Andrea Bowers, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Laura McPhee and Cindy Sherman; and the recently acquired portrait of feminist activist Rosemary Mayer by Sylvia Sleigh. When he first began painting, Jackson Pollock painted representational objects such as people and animals. However, he is famous for helping to create a whole new art movement called Abstract Expressionism. An “abstract” image is one where the subject is not represented realistically. Instead, the artist uses color and shapes to suggest the most general qualities of the subject. “Expressionism” is a kind of art that expresses feelings and thoughts. Abstract Expressionism is art that shows emotions and ideas through non-representational forms.
