Many hours were spent at the wheel- but Lillie had a keen interest in learning all aspects of pottery, so she volunteered to load kilns, maintain kilns, which gave her great experience early on. The next big step was to learn about glazes, with … Read the rest

In the not-so-recent past, when someone wanted to buy art, they had to walk into a gallery in a major city. Just as developing conceptions of ancestry provide important background for understanding the monastic programs, the development for the elite of architectural forms that accommodated ritual household devotion and decoration that depicted (actual and ideal) ancestors also enhances our understanding of the setting of the later programs. In early imperial elite houses, the tablinum, typically located on the side of the atrium facing the entrance, was a focal point of the household as the office, reception room, and location of a household shrine. The nexus of atrium and tablinum was where current household business and family history were concentrated: ancestor portraits were kept in this area, where they oversaw family celebrations and rites of passage, and inspired the young to emulate them; and this was where important household documents were … Read the rest

So much so, that Nixon established the gallery Art Projects in Melbourne with then-wife artist Jenny Watson. The space not only was a platform for Nixon’s own works, and discussion around his beloved geometric abstraction, but also showed his contemporaries, among them Tony Clark, Robert Owen, Mike Parr and Imants Tillers. Once your budget is mostly spent on paint let’s see what else might come in handy. First of all, you need to have something to apply paint with and this is a choice which depends on your method of work and again the size of your project and surface of the wall. If you don’t go with the stenciled murals and spray paint you will definitely need good quality brushes, paint sprayer even rollers and roller extensions. Many animal songs are highly structured, some in ways that overlap with human musical forms. For example, humpback whales sing series of ‘rhyming’ phrases, which begin differently and end with the same pattern, similar to the way human musical phrases may come to similar cadence points within a piece. Rhythmic entrainment — the ability to synchronize action or sound production to a regularly produced external pulse — was long thought to be a uniquely human ability. In the past 10 years, entrainment has been recognized in a growing list of non-human species, including several … Read the rest
