Oxlade – DKT (Dis Kind Thing)

Since his debut project OXYGENE dropped, young Afro Fusion act Oxlade has positioned himself as one of the most soulful acts operating today. “DKT,” his new record, reiterates that notion, a fluid love record which airs between wistfulness and romance.

Ice Prince ft. Tekno – Make Up Your Mind

Many are quick to discredit Ice Prince’s music in recent times but the iconic rapper has been making some of his best records. “Make Up Your Mind” features familiar synths and an emotive performance from Tekno, whose input leads out Ice Prince’s, bossy as ever with bars about a woman’s indecision.

He describes his sound as “herbal music” and … Read the rest

Reminiscing on the past before her life as the Tiwa Savage we now know, the Koroba singer went from simply narrating to downright emotional as she thanked her friends, Elohor, whom she said is always there to pick her up. She said;

“I think I was 22 and we were in New York, … I was living in.. kinda like a shelter, a lot of people didn’t know this. Budding Afro pop musician Crayon

Recently Notjustok interviewed Afro Pop artist Crayon over a phone call, a cold Lagos day. What follows is a compression of that conversation.

2019. Barely a week after the release of his debut project Cray Cray, Crayon was performing in Port Harcourt and the reception to his songs awed the youngster. “People were going crazy for ‘So Fine’ and ‘Gock am’,” Crayon recalls excitedly in a WhatsApp voice note. “I was over the moon and the energy was so infectious. It was spiritual and I loved it.”

The music of Crayon is very communal. It’s the sound of people roaring an upbeat chorus or moving to the similarly paced beat. When the artist in 2019 signed to Don Jazzy’s record imprint which has housed Afro Pop icons like Tiwa Savage and Dr. Sid, it sparked celebration within the Lagos … Read the rest

Robert Motherwell was a young American ‘Abstract Expressionist’ painter, printer, collage maker, and author. The collection of modern and contemporary art at the Gallery is noteworthy for exemplary works from the 20th century and the early years of the 21st century. Particular strengths are an exceptional group of avant-garde artworks from 1920 to 1940 represented in the Société Anonyme Collection, as well as an outstanding collection of mid-20th-century American paintings. So many of the other artists concentrated their attention on the ruined landscape, whereas Orpen saw the soldiers and the ruined lives. The dreadful thing about war is the almost casual way … Read the rest

The 20th century European Modernist, Figurative artist, Mark Zakharovich Shagal, or Marc Chagall was born Moshe Shagal on July 7, 1887 in Vitebsk, Belarus, the then part of the Russian Federation. So much so, that Nixon established the gallery Art Projects in Melbourne with then-wife artist Jenny Watson. The space not only was a platform for Nixon’s own works, and discussion around his beloved geometric abstraction, but also showed his contemporaries, among them Tony Clark, Robert Owen, Mike Parr and Imants Tillers. Once your budget is mostly spent on paint let’s see what else might come in handy. First of all, you need to have something to apply paint with and this is a choice which depends on your method of work and again the size of your project and surface of the wall. If you don’t go with the stenciled murals and spray paint you will definitely need good … Read the rest

Piet Mondrian (born March 7, 1872) was a Dutch painter who played a pioneering role in bringing art forms, such as ‘Neo-Plasticism’ and ‘Cubism,’ into limelight. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of visual and kinesthetic prompts on the auditory processing of students with moderate and severe hearing losses. Auditory processing was examined under the following four conditions: (1) listening only, (2) listening with visual prompts, (3) listening with kinesthetic prompts, and (4) listening with both visual and kinesthetic prompts. Vincent Willem van Gogh or Vincent van Gogh or Van Gogh or Vincent Gogh, was one of the finest Dutch artists, who is also called as the father of Expressionism. This is a truly shocking collection of poems and paintings from the war that didn’t end all wars. Leaders’ willingness to sacrifice their own citizens for their own ends sadly seems never to be overcome. Intermedia describes various inter-disciplinary art activities that occurred between genres in the 1960s. The areas such as those between drawing and poetry, or between painting and theatre could be described as “intermedia”. With repeated occurrences, these new genres between genres could develop their own names (e.g. visual poetry, performance art); historically, an example is haiga, which combined brush painting and haiku into one composition.
