The Headies awards has released their list of nominated artistes in preparation for the upcoming 14th edition and this list was released on the 4th of December 2020.

The nomination reviews releases from July 2019 to September 2020, as a result, works from the last quarter of the year did not make the cut. Regardless, several artistes lucked out. For instance, newcomer Omah Lay, bags 4 nominations ranging from next rated to viewer’s choice awards.

Self-proclaimed African Giant, Burna Boy also comes in as a heavyweight nominee with his name turning up in a total of 6 categories. For the 30BG gang, it’s evident on the list that this is their year as Davido and Mayorkun both make an appearance in the category for artiste of the year, among others.

Megastar and Queen of Afrobeats, Tiwa Savage was a guest on Apple music’s ‘The Message‘ with Ebro Darden and she talked about post-EndSARS protest, being a voice and her messages through songs.

During the interview Tiwa opened up to Ebro about the current post EndSARS era within Nigerian and it’s effects. She said:

Everyone is regrouping, because #EndSARS is just a catalyst, it was to bring awareness to the bigger picture. It wasn’t just about ending police brutality but about ending injustice, bad governance, and just fighting for a better country for us, our children and for the future. So it was a great start because it was a peaceful protest, obviously it didn’t end well but we move. Everyone is regrouping and figuring out 2023 that we all have a voice and we are going to do it.

During a radio interview with Chacha on hotfm Lagos, Nigerian singer and songwriter, Reekado Banks opened up about being disrespected by Wizkid’s tweet and talked about his ‘Off the record‘ EP. 

Reekado expressed that during his music camping he and his manager decided to hand pick some songs amongst his recorded but unreleased songs to form an E.P and that process however inspired the E.P title ‘Off The Record‘.

My album comes out next year, sometime in June or July but when we conceived this idea of dropping an E.P I was at one of those recording camps that I usually have. Since I have recorded but unreleased songs, my manager suggested that we should put together different body of works to put out from time to time before big projects like albums and stuff. That’s how we came up with the name ‘off the record’

The father-son duo 2 sided album by legendary musician and 4-time Grammy Awards nominee, Femi Kuti, and son, Made Kuti scheduled to drop in February, 2021.

The secret is out! Legendary Afrobeat artist Femi Kuti will be releasing a joint album, ‘Legacy+‘ alongside his son, Made, on the 5th of February 2021. Legacy+ will be a two-sided album, with one side featuring Femi’s project, ‘Stop the Hate’ and the other, Made’s For(e)ward album.

Leading up to the February release, the father-son duo has today, 1st of December 2020 released two new singles: ‘Your Enemy‘ by Made, and ‘Pà Pá Pà‘ by Femi.

Nigerian highlife-pop singer Chinedu is in absolute high spirits on his latest record dubbed “Celebrate”, featuring Afropop star Tekno. Released under the label imprint known as Bravo Entertainment, the Anambra state native sonically reminds us of the ephemerality of life and the need to enjoy it while we are here. On the track, Chinedu mixes the Igbo language with Nigerian pidgin to drive his message home, in a way that only vernacular can.
