In these days of budget cuts and limited resources, it’s often the case that fine arts classes are the first to be cut. Surveys the evolution of popular music styles in the United States, from the end of World War II to the present day. Examines popular music’s development and transformation, highlighting interactions with a wide array of factors including ethnic and gender identities, music business practices, race relations, social and political movements, and technological innovations. Offers students an opportunity to gain a broad overview of the field of popular music studies, its theoretical perspectives and methodologies, and its research sources and materials. In the early days of modern science, before the advent of Artificial Intelligence, the scientific research on music remained primarily involved in physics of sound and vibration. Some of the examples are the mathematical analysis of string, wind and percussion instruments. The cognitive and experiential aspects of music were not taken much note of. The emergence of Artificial Intelligence appears to be co-incidental with the taking up of cognitive aspects of music into the ambit of modern scientific research. A scientific understanding of music must begin by taking into account how minds act in the ambience of music. Music like speech is also a mode of communication between human beings. The communicator endeavors to communicate certain messages, be it mood, feelings, expression and the like. Through this he creates a story, a sort of ambience for the audience. In a sense music appears to be a more fundamental and universal phenomena than speech. In speech communication the listener has to know the language of the speaker to get the message. In creating music an artist produces an objective material called sound. The semiotics in music consists of lexicon (chalan, pakad), syntax (raga), pragmatics (thaat, gharana) and semantics (mood, feeling, emotion). Thus if science has to probe music it has to take into account these semiotics, the cognitive processes taking place in the mind along with the acoustics of it. As in the case of a language, the semiotics here also is completely languagedependent. This needs to be borne in mind when one takes up a particular music for study. A comprehensive scientific approach therefore needs to address the physical users. It appears that the public reposes faith in the modern scientific approaches. While some parents believe that excelling at music is only possible when a child has an innate talentâ€ or genetic ability, children of all types can benefit from learning music. When children are trained musically, they develop increased awareness of pitch. One study found that after two years, children with musical training were able to better distinguish between changes in pitch than children in a non-music training group. Children who receive musical training will, therefore, develop the cognitive ability to pay closer attention to the components of different melodies. For those emerging talents who aspire to enter the scene of street muralists, there are some serious things to consider regarding the mural painting techniques, tools, choice of the materials and the location. Let’s face it, mural painting is time-consuming and expensive work especially in large-scale projects. It is rarely done against the law and often requires permission, sometimes not so easily obtained. Those who entered this market in the past three years found Chinese contemporary art to be a surefire bet as prices doubled with each sale. Sotheby’s first New York sale of Asian contemporary art, dominated by Chinese artists, brought a total of $13 million in March 2006; the same sale this past March garnered $23 million, and Sotheby’s Hong Kong sale of Chinese contemporary art in April totaled nearly $34 million. Christie’s Hong Kong has had sales of Asian contemporary art since 2004. Its 2005 sales total of $11 million was dwarfed by the $40.7 million total from a single evening sale in May of this year. Georgia ‘Keeffe finally settled down in Abiquiu, New Mexico, after her husband’s death in 1949. She continued to fascinate the world with her emotive and simple paintings of exotic southwestern landscapes. By the time her illustrious career ended with her death in 1986, Georgia had carved a niche for herself and had left behind a legacy, which became a major source of inspiration for the other artists. This feasibility study was designed to address several questions: Can music synthesizer novices without written or verbal instructions (1) enjoy exploring the device, (2) discover functions of important buttons and (3) create and record a layered product and if so, within what time frame? Answers to these questions, if positive, may provide support for a protocol for using music synthesizer explorations as interventions in medical music therapy programs, particularly for adolescent and adult patients.

Roughly, Modern art encompasses the artistic production between the 1860s and the 1970s, although for some, a few of the avant-garde movements from the beginning of the 20th century tend to lean towards the contemporary category rather than the modern one. Art made following World War II is also described as contemporary by some historians, while others think of contemporary artworks as those made since the 1970s, when the term Post-Modernismâ€ was also coined and introduced. Finally, there is a group of people calling artworks made by still living artists contemporaryâ€, and focuses its attention to artworks of the late 20th and the 21st centuryâ€. Salvador DalÃ is one of the first names that comes to mind when discussing Surrealist artists.
