Modern Art, Contemporary Digital Artist By Paul Cooklin

Superflat is the Japanese postmodern art movement. Normally during the school year I travel to various Region 14 school campuses, visiting thousands of students through our Art-To-Go program. While on spring break this year, I received an unfortunate phone call saying that the schools were closing due to Covid-19 precautions, which meant that myself and the other Outreach Instructors would ultimately not see our local students, classrooms, and teachers again until the next school year. This was hugely disappointing as we love our monthly campus visits, as well as hosting each of those students at the museum in May for the final month of the program. But- just because Art-To-Go was placed on hold, doesn’t mean that our student outreach went on hiatus! The Education Department at the OJAC worked quickly to create outreach alternatives for these student audiences despite these unusual circumstances. Smith, Roberta. Vincent Willem van Gogh or Vincent van Gogh or Van Gogh or Vincent Gogh, was one of the finest Dutch artists, who is also called as the father of Expressionism. Sir William Newenham Montague Orpen was born in Stillorgan, co. Dublin (Southern Ireland) in 1878 and worked as a draughtsman and painter in the early 1900s. After war broke out, Orpen was drafted as an official War Artist alongside many other well-known painters of the day, including Augustus John and Sir John Lavery. His time on the Western Front in France was spent painting and drawing dead soldiers, prisoners of war and official portraits. The horrors of war had a strong impact on his work, and art critics noted a much more detached essence to his post-war output. He died in London, in 1931, aged 53. Craig-Martin, Michael. Body adornment has always included body painting, tattooing, and other kinds of body art, this has been the case over the ages; but in recent times, body art has become more varied and endlessly creative. Thomas Nozkowski: Recent Work (exhibition catalogue). Interview by Garth Lewis. New York: The Pace Gallery, 2010. Number 31 (One) – During the summer and autumn of 1950, Jackson Pollock completed three black paintings in quick sequence, Number 31 being the first of three. This oil and enamel on canvas shows off his mastery of the “drip” technique. What is unique about this painting is that there is no specific point of focus and there is no obvious pattern or repetition; nevertheless, the chaos is controlled. Some of the enamel is matte, and some glossy. The colours weave through one another, like a spider web’s threads of blues and grays, cut with black and white. Although … Read the rest

Modern Art, Contemporary Digital Artist By Paul Cooklin

Inspired by the radical innovations of late 19th-century painters and sculptors, 20th-century modernists pushed art to new frontiers of expression and abstraction, rewriting the rules about what constituted art and how its materials could be used. Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture and applied art, especially the decorative arts, known in different languages by different names: Jugendstil in German, Stile Liberty in Italian, Modernisme in Catalan, etc. In English it is also known as the Modern Style (not to be confused with Modernism and Modern architecture). The style was most popular between 1890 and 1910. It was a reaction against the academic art, eclecticism and historicism of 19th century architecture and decoration. It was often inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers. Other characteristics of Art Nouveau were a sense of dynamism and movement, often given by asymmetry or “whiplash” curves, … Read the rest

Nail art is the most versatile and latest fashion statement today. Miller, C., & Teramoto, M. (2015). Music therapy as a treatment for patients with post-traumatic stress disorder. International Journal of Mental Health & Psychiatry, 1(1), 1-3. His paintings often transcend the immediate depiction of the landscape and embrace the human relationship with the land. Nail art is the most versatile and latest fashion statement today. Richard Feigen Gallery, Chicago, IL. Arshile Gorky: Drawings from the Julien Levy Collection. 18 March – 26 April 1969. Catalogue. Richly illustrated and filled with fascinating insight on the Abstract Expressionism movement, this compelling book is the perfect accompaniment to our highly anticipated new exhibition. Many animal songs are highly structured, some in ways that overlap with human musical forms. For example, humpback whales sing series of ‘rhyming’ phrases, which begin differently and end with the same pattern, similar to the way human musical phrases may come to similar cadence points within a piece. Rhythmic entrainment — the ability to synchronize action or sound production to a regularly produced external pulse — was long thought to be a uniquely human ability. In the past 10 years, entrainment has been recognized in a growing list of non-human species, including several … Read the rest
