Inspired by the radical innovations of late 19th-century painters and sculptors, 20th-century modernists pushed art to new frontiers of expression and abstraction, rewriting the rules about what constituted art and how its materials could be used. Born in York, Jean now lives in the heart of highland Perthshire. She has Scottish roots through her father’s family and went back to live north of the border over 20 years ago. However, it was her first visit to Ardnamurchan and the West Coast in 1990 that provided her with her greatest artistic inspiration where she fell in love with the landscape, light and colour she found there.
