Back in Britain, a stormy scene was captured in the harbour of Lyme Regis in Dorset (now at the Cincinatti Art Museum), reminiscent of a scene from the film, ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’.

A drawing program is computer software which people can use to create different kinds of accurate images on a computer screen. The best method of T-shirt printing is Silk Screening. Silk screening consists of ink being pressed through templates called screens and applied directly to the T-shirt. This process is done once per color, so if your T-shirt has 3 colors, it must pass through 3 color screens. Once all colors have been screened on, the T-shirt passes through an oven of sorts where the ink dries and becomes permanent. Since inks are applied individually, the silk screen process requires vector graphics with a pre-determined number of colors. picplzthumbs Usually no more than … Read the rest

Incidentally, when trying to understand the history of art it’s important to recognize that art does not change overnight, but rather reflects wider (and slower) changes taking place in society. It also reflects the outlook of the artist. Thus, for example, a work of art produced as early as 1958 might be decidedly “postmodernist” (if the artist has a very avant-garde outlook – a good example is Yves Klein’s Nouveau Realisme); while another work, created by a conservative artist in 1980, might be seen as a throw-back to the time of “Modern Art” rather than an example of “Contemporary Art”. In fact, it’s probably true to say that several different strands of art – meaning several sets of aesthetics , some hypermodern, … Read the rest

Figurative art, alternatively known as figurativism, is a style in art forms -predominantly in paintings and sculptures. Normally during the school year I travel to various Region 14 school campuses, visiting thousands of students through our Art-To-Go program. While on spring break this year, I received an unfortunate phone call saying that the schools were closing due to Covid-19 precautions, which meant that myself and the other Outreach Instructors would ultimately not see our local students, classrooms, and teachers again until the next school year. This was hugely disappointing as we love our monthly campus visits, as well as hosting each of those students at the museum in May for the final month of the program. But- just because Art-To-Go was placed on hold, doesn’t mean that our student outreach went on hiatus! The Education Department at the OJAC worked quickly to create outreach alternatives for these student audiences despite … Read the rest

The two main classes of sound recording technology are Analog Recording and Digital Recording Acoustic analog recording is achieved by a microphone diaphragm that can detect and sense the changes in atmospheric pressure caused by acoustic sound waves and record them as a mechanical representation of the sound waves on a medium such as a phonograph record (in which a stylus cuts grooves on a record). In magnetic tape recording, the sound waves vibrate the microphone diaphragm and are converted into a varying electric current, which is then converted to a varying magnetic field by an electromagnet, which makes … Read the rest
